Finding What you Need… And Avoiding Holiday Insurance Scams
Besides deductibles, the next two most important factors to consider when comparing holiday insurance providers are areas of coverage and reputation. The first should demonstrate that the policy covers your possible needs and the second should give you an idea whether the company can be relied on at all.
Determining if a holiday insurance company’s areas of coverage can involve reading through some rather lengthy documentation. If that’s not an ideal option, a call to the company usually sorts it out. One thing to bear in mind is that no matter how specific a holiday the traveler has planned, chances are, there is at least one and probably more companies focused on providing holiday assurance to that niche of traveler! The reason for this is that as the industry has grown, so has the competition. Smaller companies less able to compete on price alone branched out into areas the big boys didn’t consider worth their while. So, while the big company can’t give you any figures on their deductible for shark attacks you may suffer during your next diving holiday, the niche provider may very well have different payouts for attacks by different species of shark! The point is there is so much differentiation in the market that there is sure to be a provider that covers most any possibility.
The final and most important category is reputation. The thing to do here is to examine the holiday insurance company’s user reviews online. Thanks to the dozens of review sites out there, all a prospective client needs to do is Google the company name followed by “scam” or “rip off”. Now, don’t be discouraged by a few angry rants… some people just can’t be pleased, others lash out when their attempt at fraud backfires. However, try to avoid any company where the negative reviews far outnumber the positive.
